To start, what is an eclectic kitchen? We’d like to emphasize that an eclectic space doesn’t necessarily need to be overly whimsical or busy. The term eclectic isn’t synonymous with disorganization! Eclectic kitchens can be modern, classic, or abide by some other interior design style. The common link between all of them is the unique pairing of colors, patterns, and textures that you wouldn’t normally use together. Generally, these kitchens leverage design in a way that isn’t typical or safe.
The photograph to the right depicts one part of an eclectic kitchen. This country-style space has incorporated stone countertops, green cabinets, and yellow walls in an unconventional way. Nevertheless, it undeniably works. Here we’ve outlined a couple of tips you can follow to create your own eclectic kitchen. We encourage you to apply them to your Flagstaff home!
Tip 1: Vary Texture More Than Color
When it comes to designing an eclectic space your immediate tendency might be to select a flurry of bright colors. In order to ensure that your kitchen doesn’t become too overwhelming we recommend that you consider varying texture more than color. For instance, a kitchen’s one source of color could be blue walls, and the rest of its surfaces could have neutral tones that feature texture. You could use white Subway tiles to make a backsplash and marble tiles for flooring in order to achieve an eclectic look that isn’t overpowering.
Tip 2: Incorporate Patterned Surfaces Thoughtfully
One way to create an unconventional kitchen is to incorporate patterned surfaces. Similar to the use of color and texture it’s important to achieve balance. A great place to incorporate patterns is within a backsplash. This will ensure that a pattern doesn’t take over your kitchen, because it’s restricted to a small area. A backsplash can also be used to tie an entire room together. Say for example you followed our previous tip and chose neutral-colored surfaces that feature texture. You could create a backsplash that includes all of these neutral tones to bring the room together.
